Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between ROAS and ROI?↓
ROAS measures gross revenue generated per ad dollar (e.g. $4 revenue on $1 ad spend = 400% ROAS). ROI measures net profit after accounting for product COGS, shipping, and all other expenses.
How do you calculate breakeven ROAS?↓
Breakeven ROAS = 1 / Gross Profit Margin %. If your gross profit margin is 25%, your breakeven ROAS is 1 / 0.25 = 400% (4.0x). Any campaign operating below 4.0x loses money after paying for products.
Is a 300% (3.0x) ROAS considered good?↓
It depends on gross margins. For a digital software product with 85% gross margins, 3.0x ROAS is extraordinarily profitable. For a consumer electronics reseller with 15% margins, 3.0x ROAS produces severe financial losses.
Why do advertising platforms often over-report ROAS?↓
Ad platforms use aggressive attribution windows (such as 7-day view-through or 28-day click) that take credit for customer orders that would have occurred organically without the ad.
