SGPA Calculator
Calculate your Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) across all semester subjects on the standard 10-point academic scale. Used widely in engineering, commerce, and science universities globally, this tool determines your overall SGPA, credit total, academic distinction, and AICTE percentage equivalent.
Grade point obtained in Subject 1
Assigned credits for Subject 1 (set 0 to ignore)
Grade point obtained in Subject 2
Assigned credits for Subject 2
Grade point obtained in Subject 3
Assigned credits for Subject 3
Grade point obtained in Subject 4
Assigned credits for Subject 4
Grade point obtained in Subject 5
Assigned credits for Subject 5
Semester Grade Point Average on 10.0 scale
How to Use This Calculator
- Select the letter grade point obtained for each subject (10 for O, 9 for A+, 8 for A, etc.).
- Enter the number of credits allotted to each subject on your syllabus.
- Set credits to 0 for any unused subject field.
- Read your official 10-point SGPA and equivalent percentage breakdown.
Formula & Calculation Methodology
Sums the products of each subject's credit weight and earned grade points on a 10-point scale, then divides by the total credits registered for the semester.
Worked Example
5 engineering subjects: A+ (4cr), A (4cr), O (3cr), A (3cr), A+ (2cr)
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the standard formula to convert SGPA to percentage?↓
The most widely accepted conversion adopted by AICTE and Indian universities is: Percentage (%) = (SGPA − 0.75) × 10. For instance, an SGPA of 8.75 equals (8.75 − 0.75) × 10 = 80.00%.
What SGPA is required for First Class with Distinction?↓
In most university regulations, achieving an SGPA or CGPA of 7.75 or higher (equivalent to 70%+ aggregate) in the first attempt qualifies for First Class with Distinction.
Does failing one subject fail the entire SGPA?↓
An F grade awards 0 grade points for that course. While an SGPA is still mathematically computed, your semester status will register as an active backlog / reappear until re-examination.
Can I combine SGPA from two semesters to find my yearly GPA?↓
Yes, but you must weight them by credits rather than simply taking an arithmetic average. Use the CGPA Calculator for precise multi-semester credit weighting.
